Priorities

Priority 1

Fiscal Stability & Economic Growth

When Don took office in 2011, Pawtucket was on the brink of bankruptcy with a $12 million deficit and junk bond status. Through disciplined fiscal management and shared services between city and school departments, Don turned the city around completely. Moody's Investor Services raised Pawtucket's bond rating from Baa2(-) to Aa3 — the fourth highest possible — reflecting high quality and very low credit risk. The city now maintains a reserve of over $10 million. Major transformative projects like Tidewater Landing — a $400+ unit riverfront development with a professional soccer stadium — and the new Pawtucket-Central Falls Commuter Rail Station represent Don's commitment to long-term economic growth. The former Apex Department Store site and surrounding TIF district offer Pawtucket its first downtown transformation in 70 years. Don understands that a strong financial foundation lifts every resident.

Priority 2

Supporting Small Businesses & Jobs

Don Grebien knows that small businesses are the backbone of Pawtucket's community. Under his leadership, the city launched the "52 in 52" initiative — spotlighting 52 local businesses over 52 weeks. Through Pawtucket Promotes, the Pawtucket Business Development Council, and partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce, the Pawtucket Foundation, and the Small Business Administration, Don's administration has made it easier than ever to start and grow a business in the city. Grants, loans, and targeted economic development programs continue to attract new investment and create jobs close to home. Don's prior career at American Insulated Wire (a Leviton subsidiary), where he managed budgets, negotiated labor contracts, and reduced transportation costs by 12%, gives him real private-sector experience that directly informs his pro-business approach as Mayor. Pawtucket is open for business — and Don intends to keep it that way.

Priority 3

Transforming Schools & Infrastructure

Don Grebien believes every Pawtucket student deserves a world-class education in a safe, modern facility. He has overseen the renovation of Nathaniel Green and Potter Burns Elementary Schools, the construction of the brand-new Henry Winters Elementary School, and championed a $330 million voter-approved bond for a unified Pawtucket High School — the largest school construction project in Rhode Island history. Infrastructure investment has been equally transformative: a multi-year road paving program has paved over 80% of Pawtucket's roads, parks have been renovated, and public buildings upgraded throughout the city. Don also remains vigilant on public safety, working closely with the Pawtucket Police Department to reduce gun violence and keep neighborhoods secure. From parks and greenways to roads and sewers, Don's administration takes a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improving daily quality of life for every resident.
